On Monday, the Belize Defense Force and the Police Department signed an agreement to establish standard operational procedures, to be in effect when they are working together. These will apply specifically when BDF soldiers perform domestic policing duties. Commandant of the BDF General Cedric Borland says it means taking the best out of both their protocols and coming up with one standard to apply to both the Police and the BDF.

Cedric Borland, BDF Commandant
"Both security forces, the BDF and Police, yesterday signed an agreement in regards to the way we operate. There are certain principles and code of conduct and behavior that we want to apply to both forces and that agreement came into effect yesterday. The BDF operates under certain principles and the police have their own code of conduct and what we want to do is look at the best from both organizations and see how we can put it together. Having both security forces working together, enforcing the law, and maintaining the law there are certain conduct that is expected from both BDF and Police and we want to make sure we have them synchronized. We don't want there to be any sort of conflict of interest when we are operating in the fields and even casually so we decided that these set of protocols will be disseminated as a common knowledge to conduct and behavior and courtesies for both the police and BDF.
