And while the Police Department is caught up in that controversy, yesterday at the academy in Belmopan such thoughts were faraway as a ceremony was held to pass over the command form outgoing COMPOL Jose Carmen Zetina to his successor Gerald Westby. Though few would say that we are safer now than when Zetina took over three years ago, Home Affairs Minister Ralph Fonseca said the Commissioner's tenure was brilliant.

Hon. Ralph Fonseca, Minister of Home Affairs
"Much of the successes recounted here today were achieved by the tireless work and cooperation of Commissioner Zetina. He was always quick to grasp and try new concepts, new techniques, and was able to blend, modify, and adapt the old to address the situations. As we say thanks to Commissioner Zetina, we thank his wife, daughters, son, mother, and brothers who stood by him with support and understanding of his devotion to duty."

"To Commissioner Westby, because you stood very close to Commissioner Zetina at all times, we are confident you will build on the successes and experiences of your predecessors and provide the necessary leadership to continue the development of our Belize Police Department to the expectations of an efficient and effective service to our communities."

Zetina now moves on to the Immigration Department.
