Uniformed police officers will now be able to ride free on all national transportation buses. The announcement was made this morning at a police press conference by National Transport's boss David Novelo. Novelo says this is actually nothing new because when they controlled west canal - uniformed officers rode for free. Novelo says this is more than a publicity stunt for National Transport.

David Novelo, National Transportation Ltd.
"We have always had a good relationship with the police department, especially when it comes to the safety part. We had noted from the past that whenever you have police on board the buses it creates a more safer environment, both for not only safeguarding the income of our company but as well the safety of commuters."

Gerald Westby, Commissioner of Police
"Many officers commute daily to work in Belize City for different reasons and certainly it will go a long way in assisting them in terms of expenses to be able to ride when they are coming to work, of course in uniform, and it will help the bus because the uniformed officers will naturally preserve order when they are on the bus."
