And while Commissioner of Police Gerald Westby got a certificate from David Novelo, he got $2,500 in trophies and medals from the Belize Ex-Servicemen League of New York. The medals and trophies will be given to participants of the police cadet corps' annual Easter sports camp which begins next Thursday in Orange Walk. Reginald Jex flew in from New York to present the donation.

Reginald Jex, Belize Ex-Servicemen League of New York
"We as the Ex-Servicemen League of New York decided to get together and sponsor these medals and trophies for the Police Cadet Corps."

Gerald Westby, Commissioner of Police
"Every year we have a camp for youths from across the compete and the trophies will certainly go a long way. It is important that we find meaningful alternatives during the Easter break for the kids so the trophies will go a long way in promoting healthy competition."

498 police cadets will participate in the camp which runs from April 20th to the 22nd.

More good news for the Police Department is that they won the 2006 regional Motorola community policing awards. Belize received kudos for the Yabra Citizens Development Committee Project. The award will be presented to the Commissioner of Police and Elizabeth Longsworth when they travel to Aruba next month.
