The rains have eased, and the city council has started repairing the city's rain battered and pothole-laden streets. City councilor in charge of streets Anthony Michael told us today that the repairs began on Monday and will continue as long as the weather permits.
Anthony Michael, Belize City Council
"We started work at 7:30 on Monday morning and we've been putting in fourteen to sixteen hour days patching the streets. We have patched Freetown Road, Barrack Road, Albert, Regent, Queen, Princess Margaret Drive, and Coney Drive. We have started part of Central American Boulevard, although that is the responsibility of the Ministry of Works. We just decided to do a little part in assisting the motorists and pedestrians since it is in the middle of the city. We have also done some grading and filling of some streets on Arlington Drive and we will be addressing the situation on Penn Road which we have started already."
Michael says that to repair Albert, Regent, and Queen Streets it will cost about $850,000.
