Plane Crashed Landed in Sea Off Corozal

At 3:45 yesterday, 71-year-old Canadian national Morgan David Mahoney made an emergency landing in the sea in front of his home, about a kilometer north east of Corozal Town.

Mahoney told police he was trying to land at the Chetumal Airport where the plane is registered, but the landing gear didn’t work. After three tries, he gave up on that and decide to make the emergency landing in the sea in front of his home in Corozal. Mahoney was unhurt and the plane did not receive any major structural damage.

The plane is also registered in Chetumal and tonight police have both the plane and Mahoney under guard as the Civil Aviation Department investigates.
