The Police Department today held passing out ceremonies for a new group of recruits. They enter a department rife with problems but also rich with opportunities.
Addressing them today, Police Minister Douglas Singh told them that the last set of promotions were not ideal - but it's a learn as you go process:..
Hon. Doug Singh, Police Minister

"As I said before, we are not to fool ourselves, while an effort was made to fill all the vacant post in the department to address administrative deficiencies, many of those being promoted are not quite up to scratch, so they must be advice accordingly and the training made available."
"I am sure that you will agree that the principles learned over the last four months must now be employed into practice and foremost among them must be the principles of service to Belizeans Citizens. And key to those principles is the employment of kindness, consideration and fairness above all. But key above all is the principle of integrity, trust and honesty. Any officer without those values cannot aspire to service people and any officer who has lost those values has become a part of the problem and not a part of the solution."
Baton Of Honour went to Recruit Constable #1383 Jaime Hibberd.
