Earlier we told you about casinos reopening, but will the borders be next? Well, according to the Prime Minister, that move doesn't not seem to be in the foreseeable future. He said today that the neighboring countries of Mexico and Guatemala would need to get COVID under control before the borders can be opened. And even so, they would be opened under certain conditions.
Hon. John Briceno, Prime Minister
"As to opening of the borders it's not just about opening up borders, but we also have to see what is happening on the other side of the border. Mexico continues to have a challenge with Covid, they have not taken it on as seriously as we have in Belize and also Guatemala has its problems. Fortunately we have put in the necessary attention and taken the drastic decisions to control Covid and we have succeeded and we are seeing the results. So we are monitoring it and hopefully in the not too distant future we maybe can decide as to how we'd open up the border, under what conditions and what would be expected and people are coming back after their visits across the border."
The borders have been closed since March of last year.
