We also asked the Minister of Infrastructure Development about the building of the new Haulover Bridge on the outskirts of Belize City. While addressing that inquiry, he also mentioned that his Ministry focused on finding funding to replace the Belcan Bridge and the Swing Bridge. Also, the repairs at Mile 7 on the Philip Goldson Highway will resume shortly.

Here are those comments:

Duane Moody - Channel 5
"The Haulover Bridge, we see that this project is already on the way. We see work being done in the water, as well as along the approaches. Let's talk about it."

Julius Espat - PUP Area Rep., Cayo South
"The Haulover Bridge contract has already been signed. But I have some news. We did some engineering analysis of the Swing Bridge, and I did - I specifically told the engineers to take a boat and go under the Bel China to do an analysis and to go under the Belcan Bridge. The three reports came in. Swing Bridge has to be replaced. But, because of the work that was recently done, it prolongs the life a little bit more. The one that worries me is the Belcan. The Belcan Bridge is in a state of disrepair that only if you go under the bridge will you understand. So, I went, and I am seeking financing. I think we are very close to obtaining financing to replace both the Swing Bridge and the Belcan Bridge because if not, somebody will get hurt, and we don't want that. But getting back to your question, the Haulover Bridge is on stream. They are on schedule and we also have the portion of that road leading after the Haulover Bridge that was washed away by the river. That's already - the retaining wall has had been cast. They're curing right now, and after that, they will be placed. We are trying our best."
