We also challenged Espat on whether or not his Ministry's infrastructure agenda has focused on meaningful large scale projects, or is it just simply patching up bad roads.
Here's how he went on the defensive when we put the question to him that it is been mostly superficial repairs:
Daniel Ortiz
"Observers have made the point that since your ministry was activated to do its job, the suggestion has been that you've only been able to achieve superficial upgrades, patching here, grading there, filling this, filling that. Explain to us when will we see-."
Hon. Julius Espat - Minister of Infrastructure Development & Housing
"Did you receive your text from Jules just now? No, no, I'm just joking. But I've just explained to you a lot of fundamental projects that are in the millions of dollars, and you are coming with we're only patching. But if you want to give us patching, it's one hole that we have patched that leaves one hole less for the Belizean people to drive over. I have no problem. We are patchers of holes. We are collectors of garbage. We are pavers of roads. We are graders of rural roads. We build bridges. We're going to do a hammock bridge right now in the Cayo West area. We build houses, and we inspire people. What more do you want of us?"
