Two months ago - the Belize Territorial Volunteers made their annual pilgrimage to the Sarstoon Island, but this time they ran into a militant crew from the Guatemalan Armed Forces - which blocked them in the Sarstoon, and then quickly snatched up the flags they had planted on the islands.

Well, government did protest diplomatically - and the flag - which the Prime Minister said in his Independence Day speech had already been returned - sure took a long time to get back to Punta Gorda. But it did arrive today and the volunteer in chief, Will Maheia expressed his thanks:

Will Maheia, Belize Territorial Volunteers
"We would like to say thanks to the Prime Minister for reaching out to make sure that we get our flag. Also, big respect to Minister Courtney who ensured that the flag was returned and brought back to PG. They brought it all the way here to PG in Punta Gorda. Also, we want to big up the former British High Commissioner who wrote to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to ensure that we follow up and get back our flag. So, with that said I just want to thank all the people, the boat drivers and all the Belize Territorial Volunteers, and everybody that's involved with the Belize Territorial Volunteers. We were told to keep an eye on the border because what? the border is for who? for us. The Sarstoon Island is for who? for us. So, thanks everybody and to the Belizeans who always asked that we get back the flag, the flag is gotten."
