Philosophers and paleontologists talk about geologic time, basically the time it takes rocks to grow and for the earths surface. Well, in Belize we talk about City Council time - the time it takes City Hall to fix something after the hurricane mashed it up.
For some weeks now we've been reporting on the Sandlighter's Promenade, a portion of which was uprooted by Hurricane Lisa. First we thought the mayor was converting it into a personal plunge pool, but it seems not. Yesterday, works began to actually repair the seaside landing. We note that while this is happening four months after Hurricane Lisa, it's now also happening 12 months before the next municipal elections.
