And a big change that is coming to the BDF is a change in command. Brigadier General Azariel Loria will be stepping down to make room for a new commander. Minister Mira told us it's a matter of timing:

"There is a change in command for the Belize Defense Force, and it is just, the time is up. The commander has, in fact, gone beyond the four years that this naturally their command period. We didn't have the change of command when it was scheduled to happen for some national security reason. But it is going to happen. The general has done his four years of command, and that is what they do. So now he is on additional and, there is a plan that we're going to put in place, and we'll let you know when we have the change of command. But yes, there will be a change."
Courtney Menzies:
"So you can't say who's taking over from Loria?"

"Oh, no, not yet. I want to make sure it's done, you know, officially, there will be an official announcement whenever that happens. But we do have more than one candidate that we are looking at."
Reports say that Colonel Anthony Velasquez will replace Loria.
