And as you heard from the CEO in the Ministry of Defence a few weeks ago, there's a plan being endorsed at the very top which would revolutionize how Ministry of Defence money is spent and how meals are prepared for soldiers. Velasquez explained:
Brigadier General Anthony Velasquez, Commander, BDF
"The new contracted mess or the new contractors will never be able to charge the soldiers more than say $5 for a meal. And that's very, very economical. You can never go out there in the civilian world and get a meal for $5. So that will put the power of purchasing into the hands of the soldiers. So they can choose what they want. They can either buy the subsidized meal here, bring their own meal or buy from anywhere else outside that they wish. So they will have that power. So, like I mentioned before, the power was taken from the BDF and sent to the ministry. And then another possibility is now to empower the soldiers more to choose what they want to buy."
Jaleeza Roberts:
"And was that proposal given to you all by the ministry?"
Brigadier General Anthony Velasquez, Commander, BDF
"Yes, the proposal was given to us."
