Turning now to political news, the field of candidates vying for the PUP Corozal Town Council endorsement has narrowed.
Councillor aspirant Tommy Zetina has formally withdrawn his bid following his arrest over the weekend. The arrest stems from an incident at the Belize-Mexico border on Sunday night, involving allegations of domestic abuse while intoxicated.
In a statement released this morning, Zetina wrote, "After careful consideration and reflection, I have formally withdrawn my application as an aspiring councillor candidate. I sincerely apologize for any inconvenience or damage that my situation may have caused to the Party and my colleagues. At this time, I am dealing with legal matters before the court and need the time and space to focus on resolving these issues."
Despite his exit from the race, Zetina maintains his innocence, claiming that the statements made against him-including reports filed by his common-law wife, quote, "do not reflect the truth."
