Our next story is about a filthy-looking latrine-but it's news because it's what police assigned to the Operations Team in San Pedro have to use. Yesterday, various officers reached out raising concerns over deteriorating conditions at their barracks in the DFC area and saying months-old promises to repair the facilities have yet to materialize.

Officers allege that the abysmal state of the living quarters has gone unaddressed even after a visit in April by Commissioner of Police Rosado, Deputy Commissioner Jones, then-Minister Oscar Mira, and CEO Bennett. During that visit, officers say they were assured that repairs would be carried out. However, three months later, no meaningful work has been done.

Responding to the concerns, Minister of Home Affairs and MIDH Julius Espat told us in Cabinet yesterday that his ministry is currently conducting a nationwide assessment of police stations and sub-stations to determine the true state of police infrastructure. He said he will present this report to the PM shortly, in the hope that it is looked at as a priority.
