The Society for the Promotion of Education and Research- SPEAR today presented the Prime Minister with a report entitled 'strengthening the policy monitoring capacity of civil society organizations in Belize.'
The report looks at NGO's operating in Belize and their ability to influence public policy. Those involved told us what to expect out of the report.
Eric Henry, SPEAR
"The report looked at strengthening the monitoring capacity of the civil society organizations in Belize to effectively look at public policy. Many of our NGOs are represented on several bodies, where we play active roles in looking at different issues specifically the area of national development, and we were assessing how useful is the civil society participation."
Hon. Said Musa,
"Really the NGOs play an important role in the whole development process and this whole exercise has been to see how we can improve the status of NGOs. A few of them are active and are doing very good work but they have been many of them who have fallen on the wayside and the whole idea is to see how we can strengthen the role of the NGOs in Belize."
The project was funded through the good governance thematic trust fund of the United Nations Development project.
