There is a new No. 2 man in charge at City Hall tonight - Yasmin Shoman is out and Adrian "Danny" Madrid is in as Belize City's Deputy Mayor.
Madrid was voted in as the new deputy at the monthly meeting of the city council on Tuesday night and the appointment became official today. However there is no controversy here as the deputy mayor changes yearly and during their term the city council agreed to rotate between two ladies and one male. So next year Shoman could be voted back as deputy mayor.
As for Madrid, next to mayor David Fonseca, he is one of the longest serving city councilors. He has served 5 consecutive terms since 1989 and did a stint as deputy mayor back in 1994. Madrid who is referred to, as a senior councilor is responsible for traffic and enforcement which includes two municipal courts and special constables.
