At 5:30 this evening 20 members of the UDP's central party council met to finalize the party position on the proposed constitutional amendment to de-link form the Privy Council.

The party will consider a proposal made by the Prime Minister to meet the governance demands that it leveraged in exchange for the necessary bi-partisan support of the bill. A rough proposal for draft legislation has been drafted by the solicitor general and the party will be deciding whether it likes it or not. But from those party council members 7NEWS has informally polled it seems the UDP will not accept the proposal and barring some breakthrough will block the constitutional amendment at Friday's house meeting.

As we concluded last night (GOB Will Go Ahead with CCJ Regardless of UDP) that may force the government to leave the Privy Council in place and establish the Caribbean Court of Justice as a parallel court with jurisdiction basically over trade matters only. For the Musa administration, it's a last resort and by tomorrow we'll know if it's the only one that can be pursued.
