We've had a lot of political back and forth on tonight's newscast but none of it has addressed the hottest political rumor around: that PUP backbenchers Mark Espat and Cordel Hyde will be launching a third party. That sort of development would reset the political landscape but it's only a "would" at this point because there's no solid information of any launching anytime soon. But the fact that there are rumors of a launch tells us that any attempts at "rapproshmaw" between the UDP and the rebel representatives have broken down. At his press conference today, UDP Leader Dean Barrow said that the UDP will go its own way.
Dean Barrow,
"I don't want to be unkind to those that are trying to go this route of a third party. All I will say is because they've come from the belly of the beast, they might encounter some credibility problems and I will leave it there. I am not here to say anything at all, not in the least disrespectful about Misters Espat and Hyde. We have our program, we have our agenda, we are a mass party; we are not in the process of trying to become a mass party. We are a mass party and we will proceed with programs."
The UDP has two candidates contesting conventions in both constituencies.
