UDP Mayor Calls It Quits

He was elected as Mayor in 2003, a sign of hope for a UDP resurgence in the west which it once controlled, but after just one term, San Ignacio Mayor Alfonso Cruz is calling it quits. A UDP release issued today says that, after consultation with the party, Mayor Cruz has agreed not to seek re-election in the municipal elections of March 2006. The release quotes "medical reasons" as the explanation for Cruz's decision to walk away.
