While the PUP generals are at daggers-drawn, it's easy to forget what brought the issue of old versus new blue to a head in the first place. It's the free zone election of July 10th and the fact that then acting Chairman Winston Smiling finished dead last in the balloting because he was not allowed to use 50 proxy votes, at the decree of the Ministry of National Development.
Well as promised, Smiling is taking his complaint to the Supreme Court asking for redress. He has retained Attorney Fred Lumor who today asked the court for leave for judicial review on the free zone election. Lumor is alleging that the entire election was improperly conducted and fraught with irregularities, from the Gazette notice, through to the proxies, and right down to the past and present constitution of the board. He will argue also that two proxy votes were accepted, though dozens others were, he argues, arbitrarily denied. Judicial review matters have to be heard expeditiously - but no date for this one has yet been set.
