It may still be considered the honeymoon period for village councils that were elected just a couple of months ago but that doesn't mean that all is sweet everywhere. Last week the village council chairwoman for Nuevo San Jose Palmar in the Orange Walk District announced that she along with her entire council will resign. The bone of contention is what the chairwoman says is unfair control of money that is due to the council by the village lots committee. Under the constitution of the village the proceeds of the sale of lots in the village is to be distributed between the village elders and the village council for the work of the council.

But on Thursday of last week the chairwoman Tarcila Perez Pol told our affiliates at Northern Cable Network that the system is on the verge of collapse and because of this she and her council will resign.

Tarcila Perez Pol, Chairlady - Nuevo San Jose Palmar
"We have not yet but we will resign because it is not good for us to continue without having any access here. It is as if the village council is not needed. My position is to resign along with them."

The council has yet to live up to its promise of resigning but maintain that they will do so.
