The PUP Secretariat today sent out an official release confirming what we reported on Tuesday night: that the party’s national executive has met and decided to grant Mark Espat a hearing to defend himself against charges of party disloyalty. Espat will be invited to respond to the allegation on Friday, April 11th. When we called him for comment today, he had none.
And while he has nothing to say right now – already the position against him seems to be weakened. We do note that the PUP release refers to a complaint from Leader Emeritus Price in his own capacity not as Chairman of the Order of Distinguished Service – since, as we told you last night, that chairmanship is now disputed.
Also, it makes no reference to the conspiracy charges that Price had alleged in his letter – charges that he was warned, represented a “reprehensible libel” which must be retracted.
