In an update to our story last night about the latest developments in the quarrel between the Novelo family and the Transport Board, this morning Senior Counsel Lois Young confirmed to 7NEWS that she has asked to Justice Samuel Awich to delay signing the orders he made in court on Tuesday afternoon, pending the submission of additional evidence.
Young alleges that after route distributions in the south and west left the Novelo companies with more buses than runs, the management has resorted to ‘flooding’ the northern zone with the additional vehicles. Young told us her application now is that the judge would include an order restraining the Novelo’s from putting the extra buses on the road.
Viewers should recall that on Tuesday, Justice Samuel Awich granted four companies: National Transport, Guinea Grass Transport, Ladyville Transport and Hattieville Transport leave to have the zoning policy and related decisions judicially reviewed. He also simultaneously placed an interim injunction on the Transport Board from issuing new permits to operators in the north.
In response to Young’s application, Attorney Lisa Shoman disputed the allegation and maintained that her clients are simply continuing to operate the runs that they had permits for, which admittedly, expired in May. If Justice Awich decides to amend his orders, he would do so in a special hearing.
