And so now from the election, we move unto the budget. It will be read tomorrow morning, but it was supposed to have been presented last week Friday. But it was delayed because - the official explanation said – the Ministry of Finance was still searching for ways to fill up the 60 million dollars financing gap. But, it’s more likely that it was delayed because the bad news in the budget could have hurt the UDP’s chances at the polls. And that’s because, according to our sources, they’ve tapped all available financing sources and that still wasn’t enough, so the government will be looking to taxpayers.
It’ll come at the gas pump - where prices recently hit a ten year low. From what we’re told, that cheap gas is going to become more expensive. The tax formula applied to fuel – which was changed by this government when it was elected to allow the recent record lows – will be modified to put an additional Revenue Replace Duty bite on it – thus raising the price – our sources suggest - by about a dollar across the board. The Prime Minister is expected to announce this revenue measure in tomorrow’s budget address.
