The Belize City Council remains split tonight with 7 councillors against Mayor Zenaida Moya Flowers. Their complaint is that Mayor Moya has gone rogue and she runs the business of the council as if it were her own. But as you heard last night, the Mayor isn’t taking it lying down. In fact she is in fighting form and this afternoon she called the media to city hall to drop more bombs on the Z-7. 7News was there.

Keith Swift Reporting,
Mayor Zenaida Moya-Flowers says this surveillance video which shows the Z-7 leaving the City Hall conference room on Tuesday evening is proof that they didn’t meet after the official meeting and passed the resolution.

Zenaida Moya-Flowers, Mayor of Belize City
“It was stated that they stayed in there and they went through and they carried on the meeting and that a resolution was passed. Well you know

thank God for cameras. I want to show unu, I want to want to show unu and the time and everything. Remember and I want to back up a little and show when Councillor Singh left. I want unu see when Singh left to show that what they are saying is not true.

The door opens and there it is, there is the time 6:51. They are there talking and what have you and so forth. You see Dean Samuels leaving now and what time was it, 6:51:46 alright. He was the last person that left from out there, he said it. He said he was the last person who left because he too, they were discussing and so forth and he said no resolution was passed; none.”

But it didn’t end with the video, as Mayor Moya took a direct swing at councillor Laura Esquivel-Frampton.

Zenaida Moya-Flowers,
“She spoke as though she knew exactly what was taking place in the council. You would think this person was at every single meeting and was just in tuned with what was happening at the council. But let us go to the attendance sheet to see if she is in a position to know what is happening at the council. You will note that out of a total of 29 meetings. Now remember me and she had gone on maternity leave around the same period, both of us had gone on maternity leave. Out of 29 meetings, she has been absent at 19 meetings, 19 meetings. I was absent at 6 meetings and this is during the break, September 15th to October 23rd.

So you see the difference, 6 versus 19, 19 meetings. Nobody can say she was on maternity leave because if you look at when she went on maternity leave as opposed to all these meetings when she was still absent and she was not on maternity leave. Compared that to when I was on maternity leave only 6 times and no absent, no absent when I was not on maternity leave. So this is the person who is speaking as though she knows everything that is happening at the council.”

And as for the vote for the now disputed vote for deputy mayor on February 19th. Moya says Phillip Willoughby is the deputy mayor and will remain so.

Zenaida Moya-Flowers,
“I had told you yesterday that had it been Leila Peyrefitte that had won, I don’t believe anybody would have been interviewing me now. Nobody would have been interviewing me, there would have been no reason. We see this has happened in the past, nothing was said, me personally, but now apparently because it is not the person that particular persons want, they are trying to discredit me and I am tired of anybody discrediting me because it would seem like because a number of them could stand up and that they are more credible than me, well I am showing unu the facts.”

The Mayor stressed this afternoon that all payments over $5,000 have to be approved by Financial Controller Patrick Tillett nd she showed us his signatures on vouchers as proof. In addition the mayor again reiterated her request for public meetings.
