For the past few days, the PUP has been airing an ad which claims that Government's Legal representative Lois Young has made 4.8 million dollars in legal fees from the Barrow Administration. The Opposition claims to have documentary evidence supporting this.

And so today in the House of Representative, Opposition Leader John Briceno put the question to the Prime Minister formally: How much has been paid to Lois young's Law Firm since February 2008.

The Prime Minister answered by first cataloguing Young's successes in court:…

Dean Barrow, Prime Minister of Belize

"And another $2,700,000.80 in the case against the motor vessel Caribe Mariner, another environmental damage case. All together then we have obtained judgments amounting to a grand total of $59,790,251.97 from the legal services of Lois Young. In return we have paid her $2,461,747.08 include disbursements. This is for 35 cases which would there spin off sub cases and applications for to set aside and strike out motions amounts to about double to that amount and this is what she has been doing for us since 2008.So this is over a period of just in excess of three years. Her net is just about $2.25 million in return for the almost $60 million dollars she has earn us. Also remember Mr. Speaker that for the Jeffrey Prosser litigations and again I have the bills - the PUP government paid over $7 million Belize dollars to various foreign lawyers in particular Hunton and Williams and Moskowitz and Moskowitz. This was in less than one year for an imbrium that was brought on by their dishonesty and double dealing and for which the government and people of Belize got nothing."

The house meets again in two weeks for the budget debate…
