The growing unrest surrounding BGYEA's Harmonyville has finally gotten the attention of Cabinet.

A Cabinet brief issued this afternoon says that the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Natural Resources Gaspar Vega will participate in a planned meeting with representatives of all the parties of the Harmonyville community tomorrow, to arrive at amicable solutions to land issues in that community.

Of course, there's no magic bullet solution, the problems have now taken on racial and political dimensions and it flared up this afternoon, when we received reports that BGYEA President Nigel Petillo was detained by Belmopan police after a complaint of damage to property was made against him. He told us he went in for a meeting and was told that he would be charged for destruction of property. Petillo says he explained what he did - which was cut down and shave some trees to conduct a survey on the Harmonyville bloc - and he was told that police will investigate. He was released without being charged but was told that many complaints have been lodged against him for destruction of property.
