There's a minor shift of political power in the PUP that's noteworthy. Newcomer Standard Bearer Anthony Mahler is the new Chairman of the Party's Eastern Caucus. He replaces his Caribbean Shores predecessor Joe Coye who has stepped down from that post. But it wasn't automatic. While Mahler is known to be a favourite of party leader John Briceno, he was challenged by Pickstock Standard Bearer Francis Smith. Smith's younger brother Godfrey had visibly supported Mahler at his Caribbean Shores convention - but at the Caucus election on Monday night, the elder Smith challenged Mahler. But, as we noted at the top, Mahler emerged victorious, but did so narrowly, garnering the support of 6 divisions to Smith's five.
