Earlier on in the news we told you how the political parties plan to bring out their forces at Wednesday's public consultation on the ninth amendment. Well, the churches will also have their say. According to a release from the council of churches they do not support the proposed amendments to sections two and 69 of the constitution. The council argues, "Any amendments to the constitution which are inconsistent with the fundamental principles set forth in the constitution particularly the preamble is beyond the law making authority of the national assembly." The council also says that, "It is critical that (the judiciary) be able to examine the constitution" The statement from the council says that it does support the enshrining of the Belizean ownership of public utilities.
