Caribbean Shores just got a new UDP standard-bearer and tonight there's a rumour that the PUP want a new one too.
PUP standard bearer Anthony Mahler - who was elected earlier this year - confirmed to 7news that he has heard a rumour that party higher-ups want to replaces him with the party's communications director Lisa Shoman.
Defiant, Mahler told us that he is unfazed and that it is nonsense.
Surprisingly, Lisa Shoman told us the same thing. She is travelling but told us that there are no such plans; she has not been offered and has no interest in the job. She added, quote: "We have a standard bearer and he's a good one." End quote.
So then where is the story coming from? Well, it is known that Mahler who works at Speednet was a favourite of the Briceno leadership - and now that the old guard has re-taken control of the party - it might want a candidate more amendable to its culture. That's one theory, but Mahler said he believes it may also come from the UDP - which would prefer to face a less formidable candidate.
