And while that's mass party politics, the Belize Peace Movement, which is attempting to force a redistricting exercise before the next election, says their Supreme Court lawsuit has progressed somewhat.

In a press release sent today, the Peace Movement says that on June 27, 2020, Acting Chief Justice Michelle Arana gave an order for an independent expert to provide an objective view as to whether or not the currently defined 31 electoral divisions are sufficiently equal. That expert is also expected to assess the impact of any disproportion in the sizes of the constituencies, and he is going to identify and quantify the discriminatory effects.

The BPM says that they understand that this expert, Sean P. Trende, has completed that report, which is scheduled to be filed at the Supreme Court.

The expert's report is also expected to include suggestions for the drawing of the electoral boundaries so that the number of voters can be proportionally distributed.
