We spoke to Espat at another of the PUP's "Plan Belize" events - as the party unveils what would be its manifesto in weekly doses - all at virtual launches.
We'll have the full report on that later - but the rollout is the work of a party in high gear for a general election - sometime soon. When? Well, the Senate met for the last time in this session today - and so that means the parliamentary work is done - and an election can be called any day.
But, could it be delayed by an order of the Supreme Court? As we've told you, a major constitutional challenge to the unequal distribution of voters across constituencies is before the supreme court. The Belize Peace Movement argues that it is unconstitutional to hold an election without a re-districting exercise which would make the 31 constituencies more evenly divided.
Julius Espat has always championed the need for re-districting - but he's also itching for a general election to be held. Today, we asked him which one is a higher priority:
Reporter:
"Sir do you still support the need for re-districting?"
Hon. Juluis Espat, PUP Area Rep. - Cayo South
"I personally believe it is important. It is necessary, it is constitutionally right. That is my point of view."
Reporter:
"Do you believe that might happen before..."
Hon. Juluis Espat, PUP Area Rep. - Cayo South
"I am not an attorney, I don't know, I ready for election now, I ready for anything, I ready to rumble in the jungle."
Jules Vasquez:
"But you don't want it to postpone the election now."
Hon. Juluis Espat, PUP Area Rep. - Cayo South
"If the law say I have to then I have to, I don't have a choice, but I don't think it is the appropriate time but I think it is merited, it is needed and has to be done."
