7News has learned that the PUC Commissioners appointed by former Prime Minister Dean Barrow have today resigned today. Now, the PUC is not like a regular government board or even a corporate one with government appointees. The PUC is a creature of statute, and its commissioners are appointed by the Governor General acting on the advice of the Prime Minister. As we understand it, the current commissioners, appointed by the former prime ministers were appointed until April of next year. Talks with the new Minister of Utilities had reportedly pointed to a January resignation and transition to new commissioners. But, reports say that did not sit well with others in government and calls started being made questioning why these Barrow appointees were still around. With that, the members reportedly resigned today, leaving the commissioner posts immediately vacant.
