And while De La Rosa says he has proof to back up the truth of his claims, there is no truth to a fake press release claiming to announce the UDP's slate for municipal elections.

Names such as the local meme Kendra Madrill, infamous cab driver Roy Craig, and past Miss Universe Belize Jenelli Frazer were some of the candidates presented. The release also makes the claim that a UDP Council would create jobs, provide free education, and build cement homes - none of which are the mandates of the city council.

The UDP addressed the fake release with a legit release saying that it is, quote, "a desperate attempt by the People's United Party to distract Belize City residents from the poor performance of this disastrous PUP City Council administration… City residents are asking the PUP administration to do their job but all they have to offer are distractions and laughter." End quote.

The official slate has yet to be announced, but sources tell us that there are 26 candidates interested in representing the UDP for Belize City. The problem, though, lies in hosting a convention under strict quarantine regulations. One candidate hopeful who has pushed ahead with his own soft launch of his candidacy for mayor, is our media colleague Orson Picart. He stressed today though that the party Executive has not yet confirmed his candidacy.
