But what about transparency in the Belize City Council's finances? Reports are that the council's finances are a subject of interest for the Ministry of Finance, and not just because of the nationwide financial pinch.
We put that question to Mayor Bernanrd Wagner in no uncertain terms, here's how he responded.

"We've heard reports that the ministry of finance will be taking a more active interest in the council's financial affairs. Can you discuss this?"

"I can't speak on that. You would have to ask the ministry on that matter."

"As a follow up is this more active interest an indication that your stewardship of the council's affairs from a financial perspective is somewhat in question?"
