Turning now to other news, the PSU has backtracked after a scolding press release from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Trade and Immigration threatened legal action.

It arises from an appearance on Channel 7's Uncut by PSU Executive members including President Dean Flowers. He suggested that there were suspicious irregularities in technical staff from the Department of Immigration traveling to South America to provide secured travel documents to Belizeans resident there.

Today, a release says that the PSU President, quote, "acknowledges using poor choice of words in underscoring this point of national interest. The union wishes to categorically state that at no point in time was it the intention of the president to incur improper motives on the work of any public officers directed to carry out those missions - as the focus was on the policy decision by the Immigrant Department to carry out the mission without public disclosure…the President of the PSU apologizes unreservedly to those public officers for any inference that their participation in this emissions was anything suspicious or nefarious," end quote.

The release closes by asking for transparency in any future missions of this sort.
