UDP's Hugo Patt, who is the former Deputy Prime Minister and a cane farmer, has accused the Briceno Government of turning up the gas pain on the caneros of northern Belize.

The area rep. for Corozal North posted on Facebook yesterday that the fuel subsidies for farmers in Orange Walk and Corozal stood at 4 dollars and 14 cents and 4 dollars and 15 cents per gallon respectively. Those were numbers at the start of the 2021-2022 crop season. But, now that diesel is soaring high on the international market, Patt asserts that the new government has decided to cut the subsidies by 70 cents for a 16% decrease. The new subsidies are 3 dollars and 44 cents and 3 dollars and 45 cents on the gallon for diesel. Cane farmers must pay 70 cents more per gallon.
