Today the president of the Dominican Republic, Luis Rodolfo Corona handed over the Pro Tem Presidency of the Central American Integration System, or SICA, to Belize's PM, John Briceno. This was done at the 56th Meeting of Heads of State and Government of SICA, which was held in Santiago de Caballeros, in the DR.

According to a press release, as the President, Belize will be, quote, "steering the regional integration process based on the five priority pillars of SICA integration, which are economic and social integration, institutional strengthening, democratic security, climate change and sustainable development." End quote.

Belize will also be focusing on issues high on its national development agenda, such as climate change, food security, migration as well as deeper engagement with CARICOM and SICA.

The PM started his stint with a flurry of meetings including a Bi-lateral with Costa Rica and SELAC.
