Last month, we told you how the Briceno Government must urgently fill a growing number of vacancies in the judiciary. 7News has since obtained a copy of the Cabinet Secretary's letter to Opposition Leader Shyne Barrow to address the shortage.

The letter is dated December 14, 2022, and the Cab. Sec. Stuart Leslie points out that seven vacant positions in the High court need to be filled urgently.

The Cabinet Secretary adds that the Judicial and Legal Services Commission has recommended that several candidates be reappointed or appointed as Justices of the High Court.

The JLSC recommends that Justices Patricia Farnese and Genevieve Chabot be reappointed to the High Court. They also recommend the appointment of new judges: Mr. Nigel Pilgrim, Ms. Martha Alexander, and Mr. Byron Weekes, all of them foreign judges.
