A change of subject later and another question for the PM was his response to the Lead of the Opposition's comments on his family profiting from high fuel prices.
It's a claim he shut down outright saying that there is no way his family stands to gain from higher taxes - especially since they no longer have any interest in fuel stations.
And in more of his conversation with Kevin and Renata, he explains that there's very little that G.O.B. can do about how high gas prices have soared.
John Briceno, Prime Minister Of Belize
"We are collecting less taxes today on a gallon of fuel than what was being collected under the UDP, I have tried to hold it down as much as possible when I have said that we want to keep diesel in a position of $9 we did not have the invasion with Ukraine we didn't have the barrel of petroleum going u to $100 plus dollars, you know it was around $6.00 at that time and so we should have been able to play with the taxes and try to keep it at $9.00. But because of these things where there is absolutely nothing we can do we are trying to keep diesel at no higher that 13 dollars, if you notice premium had gone up to about $15 dollars because we said you know if you want to pay for that, that is your business but what the regular people use. Regular fuel and then the diesel for production we try to keep that under $13.00 and then last year we gave up about $35 million dollars in taxes. That is $35 million dollars that we could use to build more houses, do you know how many more houses you could build with 35 million dollars, how much more help we could have given to people with the grocery bag program. All, these social programs NHI, education, there are so many things we could do with 35 million dollars but we cut because we felt that we had no other option but to do that."
