Today, Opposition Leader Shyne Barrow said that to even try to get away with the phone allowance increase shows him a government that is tone deaf:
Shyne Barrow, Leader of the Opposition
"Tone deaf and completely disconnected, the fact that they even went there. And just a government that is oblivious to the needs and the concerns of the Belizean people. And so I think this is a telling moment."
"And so all of the stakeholders need to continue to speak because while rescinding that ill-advised tone deaf increase in allowances, which according to your intelligence was just to satisfy the hunger and thirst of the Cabinet Secretary, to satisfy his ego and his pride so that he could compete with the office of the Prime Minister's CEO, It still does not solve the issues that are still plaguing the BNTU and other public officers as far as the increments that they're supposed to get paid and all of the other outstanding commitments that the People's United Party government has made."
