Election petitions are used to challenge an election result. There's never been a successful one taken before the courts - and we have never seen one used in a municipal election.

But, the UDP has filed one to challenge the result of the Punta Gorda Mayoral election where their candidate, Frakling "Kranka" Polonio lost by 25 votes to Carlos Obeah Glavez.

This was established after two recounts with Polonio leading during the first count.

The UDP petition alleges that there was, quote, "fraudulent destruction of what would have been considered valid ballots (which would have made Polonio) as the rightful elected mayoral candidate."

We'll let you know where this one goes, but, based on history going back over many decades, the prospects of success for an election petition are not good.
