And the Senate also debated the Millennium Challenge Account - Belize Authority Bill.

It centers around the massive MCC grant that the US has approved. 250 million dollars will be divided between the educational and energy sectors.

But while it looks good on paper, some senators have their concerns.

Michael Peyrefitte, UDP Senator
"I need to know what the deal is. One day the United States of America gets up and just gives beliefs 125 million US. What led to that? What's the quid pro quo? It's not a nation that's known to just give things freely, you know."

"So it's legitimate for anybody Belizean citizen to ask, well, what are we giving up? What?"

Moses Benguche, Senator

"That like the previous senators, I wonder about the overkill insofar as oversight is concerned and how worthy is it, how flexible it will be for both the energy sector and the educational sector to be able to do some things that perhaps we would like to see done in the country."

"But because it seems to be you're restricted, you might not have much room to, to maneuver. So that is one concern. On the aspect of the board, part 2-11, where it speaks to remuneration, I think we need to continue to note that aspect."

"Whereby, I would hope, and even though there will be oversight, I would hope that as we speak today to the issue of remuneration that it will involve those who in an authentic way should receive because I can see there that on the board especially the voting members are I think if I'm right and I look at it again there are about three or so CEOs already who are already receiving a salary and should be restricted in so far as a because they already are receiving a salary and perhaps some additional numeration that they would not have to fit into this category."
