And while inter-council infighting is nothing new for the PUP - for the UDP, open internal warfare is now a way of life.

After a week of being ignored, the supporters of Tracy Panton have now created what they call the "Alliance for Democracy" -and they wrote the chairman a letter today demanding that recent decisions be reviewed. They say those decisions are against the party's constitution.

But, we expect these latest entreaties will also be ignored and that the division between Panton's loyalists and Shyne Barrow's loyalists will only deepen.

So, will that open warfare force the PM to call an early election?

We asked him that again on Friday:

Jules Vasquez
"Sir, with all the chaos in the UDP, your party must be pressuring you to say, PM, this is basic political logic, the rule of the jungle. You have to call elections now, because these people are in a position where they can lose all seats."

"How do you resist the urge of the inevitable political logic?"

John Briceno, Prime Minister
"Yeah, the logic is there. But sometimes not everything is about political expediency, but about what you've been elected to do. We have a lot of work ahead of us. And yes, the temptation is there, they say let us call the elections. But listen, we call election right now, and I don't want to see him boastful or arrogant, but we call election today. We're going to win. We call elections next year. I believe things are there as they are, we're going to win. And the division within UDP for which I don't like to comment upon is so deep that they're not going to settle that in a year's time."

"So if we call election right now, all we're doing is just losing one year of work that what we have to do in plan Belize."
