Last month they were blocking roads and even the airport but, this week, teachers, public officers and senior managers have all accepted government's staggered salary increase proposal.
It's a major pressure release for the prime minister after two months of sometimes difficult negotiation.
Today the PM discussed the current state of relations with the BNTU.

John Briceno, Prime Minister:
"The road blockage and so it was a small group, most of the union members were working and it's unfortunate that they felt they have to go down that road, we never said we were not going to give them arrears, we always said we wish we can give them more but we have to live with what we have. There was a long negotiation and sometimes it used to get testy at times, but we negotiated in good faith and I believe that's what happened."
