The UDP list of delegates for Saturday's National Party Council meeting has been released and - surprise, surprise - party members are deeply divided over it. As the chairman had indicated, the list would be comprised of those who ran under Shyne Barrow's slate. However, he had also said that representatives from the camps of those who ran under Tracy Panton's slate would be able to attend the meeting as well.
But with the meeting only 4 days away, Panton isn't in agreement with this. She took to Facebook to issue a statement, saying that she believed that what was presented as an effort to unite the party has become a way to hijack it and return it to Barrow's faction.
She also stated, quote, "Any genuine attempt to unite the UDP should include all parties who are the bonafide divisional caretakers along with their executive members….conventions must be held for all the constituencies who are not elected to serve in the National Assembly of Belize; and, not only a few divisions described as the "Tracy Ticket…there can not be unilateral decisions by either father or son in a healthy democracy." End quote.
Whether the meeting will proceed unhindered on Saturday is left to be seen.
