She's known as one of Belize's most capable senior magistrates, but Baja Shoman is leaving the magistracy quite abruptly. According to our reports this is after the Chief Justice Louise Blenman instituted a new system where the three Senior Magistrates stationed in the city were re-assigned and transferred to the districts. Shoman - who had a notable career in the public service starting at legal aid - was one of those magistrates. She was transferred to the southern district courts. According to reports she asked to not be transferred citing pressing family obligations that require her to be in the city. But, no concessions were afforded to her and she has now resigned.
We note also that an extension has been given for the current vacancies advertised globally for magistrates and senior magistrates.
