The UDP will hold its first national convention in more than two years on Sunday. For the red party, it's been two years of intense infighting and major political losses. But, with a new leader about to be installed on Sunday - the party is hoping it can turn a new leaf. But, while it will have a woman officially leading for the first time in the party's history, might the party see a familiar face at Chairman? John Saldivar is in the running, and we asked acting chairman Alberto August what he expects on Sunday:
Alberto August, Deputy Chairman - UDP

"In terms of the turnout. Yes, I agree, that the party would want to show muscle out there on Sunday but it all boils down to the amount of finances that you put into it. And unfortunately, we are not at that position right now where money is flowing as in previous times, though, when you're in opposition, money kinda tight."
Jules Vasquez
"It will have a new leader. And for the first time, the UDP will be led by a woman, Tracy is running unopposed, so she will be endorsed."
"How do you feel about the UDP in this new era?"
Alberto August, Deputy Chairman - UDP
"Well, we are looking forward. We are looking forward for revitalized UDP. And as a good UDP, you hope and pray for the best. We will support our new leader."
"We have the support of our new leader. This country is at the stage, Jules, and you, more than anyone else, should appreciate the fact that a viable opposition is just desperately needed for this country. And that is what we intend to put forward."
"The honorable Tracy has earned the position. So, let's give her a shot at it and hope for the best."
Jules Vasquez
"Will it be seen as retrograde If yes, you have a new leader, a woman leader for the first time in the party's history. But then you have one of the old UDP corpses as a chairman."
Alberto August, Deputy Chairman - UDP
"Well, coming out of Sunday, with effect from the 1st of December, all eyes of the supporters of this party will be on the new team."
"So however you want to characterize these persons, it is up to them to put their best foot forward. And in so doing, like for example, you are mentioning, you're mentioning the, John Saldivar, this might be the opportunity to redeem himself. So it is all up to them."
The convention will be held on Sunday where over 500 delegates will vote. Channel 7 will have liver coverage throughout the day.
